| Name: | Near (OU) |
|---|

(Warning: I'm afraid I'm not an English native! ( ' v ' ) Expect many terrible mistakes that might make your brain bleed~)
Character: Near
Series/Fandom: Death Note
Original or Alternate: Original
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Sexuality: Mostly asexual, although he has slept with the other Near out of despair.
Appearance: White, so white. Platinum soft and short length hair, oversized white pajamas, baby face, and black, vacant eyes. He’s the image of an innocent and detached small child, despite his age. This, however, doesn’t necessarily mean that his heart is as pure and white as his appearance is.
Personality: Near is a pinnacle of intelligence; pure and cold logic. He never ever lets his emotions cloud his judgment, thus he tries to avoid them at any cost, always showing an emotionless, undisturbed self. This doesn’t mean he lacks feelings, though, contrary to what many people believe.
Usually detached from the rest of the world, never allowing anyone close, he spends his time alone playing with toys, indoors. He never has a problem in saying what he thinks, though he never fails to speak in a polite way, despite how harsh and untactful the meaning behind his words might be in many cases, and how shocked some people might be about his ways.
Nobody really knows what’s inside that brilliant head, as he tends to keep his thoughts to himself unless it’s his job to share them. His predilection toward playing with toys while he solves the most difficult equations or the most atrocious cases gives everyone the slightly disturbing image of a great mental and physical age gap.
Abilities/Weapons: His intelligence and wits, along with the usually perfect control he has over his emotions.
Weaknesses: He’s completely unable to survive on his own, like a baby who needs to be taken care of; as intelligent as he is, he can’t make a plan work without others’ help. He’s also dysfunctional when it comes to human relationships, unused and quite scared of them, even if his emotionless mask doesn’t give much of this away.
History: (I’m afraid this is going to contain many spoilers about Death Note).
Near is a little genius who spent his highly unusual childhood in Wammy’s House, an English orphanage full of prodigy children trained to become “clones” of L, the greatest detective in the world. Although Near has always been doing his best to follow L’s logic, thoughts, and justice, in the end he’s still himself. His similarities with the man might come from his own nature, something that helped him earn the title of True Successor. This also resulted in earning Mello’s hatred, the kid considered “number two” in the orphanage, who is bound to become Near’s reckless rival.
At the age of 13, Near was given the notice that the person whose steps he had always followed was dead. Near didn’t cry, didn’t show any kind of emotion, but inside he felt as betrayed as his partner in the succession, Mello, who had always been too open when it came to his own feelings. It was alright, Mello had enough tears for both of them.
At the lack of a choice from L, there was no successor, thus Mello and Near were asked to work together on the Kira case and finish what their predecessor couldn’t. A too proud and emotional Mello refused to work with Near, who had to start an independent investigation on his own about the Kira case from scratch.
Four years later, at the age of 17, Near had gathered a considerable amount of valuable information about the case and had been recognized as L’s true successor by the American Government. Because of this, he was put in charge of a group formed by FBI and CIA agents, solely reunited with the purpose of catching the mass murderer Kira. The name this group received was SPK (Special Provision for Kira).
From that moment on, a game against Mello started. Who will get to the last boss, Kira, first? It’s just a game, after all. The game of Death... but still a game nonetheless.
Barracks Assignment: Om-Deka
Training Division: Technology
(Extra) Relationships:
Near (AU) (
Hatred and love mixed together. N is everything Near doesn't want to become, and at the same time, he's the person he feels most sympathy for. After one of the Mellos made Near emotionally weaker than he considered safe, he drowned and murdered his curiosity about being loved with self-hatred, allowing his twin to take his body as he desired. Near is currently struggling not to become like N - he refuses to leave the path L taught him and acknowledge N as his unavoidable fate.
L (OU) (
No longer seen as L, all respect is lost.
L (AU) (
She has proven to be as capable and trustworthy as his L was in the past. Right now, she is the only reminiscence of what L should be like. Near's willing to support her and prevent her fall, considering her as the real L. Their bodies might be different, but Near can recognize the same mind, spirit and intelligence in her.
Mello (AU) (
Thrilled by a Mello who didn't display any kind of hatred towards him, Near started following his game. When Mello claimed to need him, Near forced himself to slowly open up, allowing Mello to gradually reach him more and more in an emotional level. As soon as Matt appeared, however, Near abruptly ceased being needed, realizing that he had simply been used. Near certainly doesn't give him any kind of thought anymore, especially now that he's gone.
Mello (OU) (
The latest Mello. Near's willing to cooperate with him and perhaps obtain his support in Econtra for the sake of survival. Although this Mello was just another one in Near's book at first, Near's thankful to finally find a Mello that completely reminds him of the one he used to know back in his world-- one that knows how to properly challenge him.
Watanuki (AU) (
Near's source of food and sometimes information. He finds her trustworthy to an extent, as he knows how guilty she feels about lying and how easy it is to notice when she does. Overall, he thinks she is a genuinely good person.
